Gate 4 - The Horse Gate

HORSE GATE: Spiritual Warfare (in Christ Jesus)
(Nehemiah 3:28) Above the Horse Gate, the priests made repairs, each in front of his own house. (NIV)

Horses were not in common use in Israel, although Solomon bought in thousands of horses and chariots to trade with other nations. However, horses in those days, symbolised warfare.

What is the significance of this gate?
The Horse Gate reminds us that as believers, we are constantly in spiritual warfare. As Christians, we must be ready when the devil tries to tempt and lead us astray. We must be strong in the Lord to withstand. In Ephesians, we see that the armour of God will help us stand against our enemy. We are advised to be vigilant to resist the devil.

1 Peter 5:8-9 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. (NIV)

Ephesians 6:10-13 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. (NIV)

Revelation 19:11-16 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron sceptre.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. (NIV)
