Gate 2 - The Miphkad Gate

MIPHKAD GATE (a Temple Court gate): Fit for purpose
(Nehemiah 3:31) Next to him, Malkijah, one of the goldsmiths, made repairs as far as the house of the temple servants and the merchants, opposite the Inspection Gate, and as far as the room above the corner.(NIV)

The Hebrew word ‘miphkad’ is in only 2 other references (2 Samuel 24:9 and 1 Chronicles 21:5). The word relates to the assessment and inspection of all those suitable to be counted in the army.

What is the significance of this gate?
The Miphkad Gate represents “are we fit for God’s purpose?” As we mature as followers of Jesus, we remember that we should live a life pleasing to God, allowing Him to refine us.

James 1:2-4 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many
kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (NIV)

Zechariah 13:9 This third I will bring into the fire;
I will refine them like silver
and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them;
I will say, ‘They are my people,’ and they will say, ‘The LORD is our God.’” (NIV)

Ephesians 4:11-13 It was he (Christ) who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (NIV)
